In a notable development ahead of next year's general election, a pair of high-profile personalities in Nepali politics have teamed up. This alliance emerges in the aftermath of widespread and fatal youth-led demonstrations that shook the country earlier this year and ultimately resulted in the removal of the sitting government.
A Pledge to Address Youth Concerns
Television host Rabi Lamichhane, who leads the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah, a former rapper, have officially pledged to prioritize the grievances raised by the new generation. This promise follows the violent anti-corruption protests that occurred in September, which resulted in considerable casualties.
"Agreement should not be what a leader wants, it must be what the nation requires," stated Lamichhane after the deal was signed.

According to the official agreement, the positions for the approaching election have been clarified. Rabi Lamichhane will continue to serve as the chairperson of the RSP. Meanwhile, Balendra Shah will be the party's nominee for the position of prime minister in the election scheduled for 5 March.
