Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
